About Mediation

For those early in the process of mediation, I have a resource page to learn more about mediation.

Scheduling

For questions, I’m available for scheduled calls.

Individuals attending without attorneys, please use Calendly to schedule for 1-hour blocks on Wednesdays. My answering service has access to some additional times: (404) 588-3000.

For attorneys, I have 2-6 hour blocks available via Calendly on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Once a starting time has been selected, it blocks the entire day through 4:30 pm. If you anticipate a mediation may extend beyond 4:30, please note while booking. I have additional dates available via email or with my answering service: (404) 588-3000. Mediations with counsel do not have prepayment. Attorneys may be invoiced for late cancellations as per my cancellation policy below.

Policies

Billing Rate

For this mediation startup year, I will bill mediation at $200 per hour. In a case with two parties, the amount would be $100 per party per hour unless otherwise agreed.

Cancellations with attorneys

Cancellations with less than 48 hours notice for reasons other than a full settlement of the case are subject to a one hour fee to be paid by the attorney for the canceling side. Any attorney who cancels after 1:00 pm the day prior to mediation will be invoiced for a two hour fee absent a situation that was communicated well in advance or an emergency situation that could not be anticipated.

Sessions without counsel

In my experience, the biggest risks of attending a mediation without an attorney occur during long mediation days. For that reason, I only mediate without attorneys in a series of one hour sessions. At times it would be appropriate to begin without attorneys then shift to a longer session with attorneys.

One hour sessions are paid in advance at the time of booking. I do refund those sessions with advance cancellation as noted on Calendly. To permit time for preparation and follow up tasks, one hour sessions begin at the hour and end at ten minutes prior to the next hour.

My plan coming into a first session is to focus on ground rules and the identification of information to be gathered for exchange. Sometimes, we are able to accomplish more during the first session. For those ready to more quickly, I have a mediation homework page. For most families, the mediation homework list will be completed over several weeks. This is because I expect at least one party will not be in an emotional state compatible with being able to complete this process quickly. That is the norm in the overwhelming majority of cases.

These sessions are intended to assist those unrepresented by counsel. They may also be scheduled by parties whose attorneys have recommended a session without attorneys if I receive the consent of the attorneys. If either party is represented by counsel, please provide the names of the attorneys at booking so I may confirm their permission to meet with you.
